Blog Tour: Angie Smibert - THE FORGETTING CURVE + Giveaway

Please welcome Angie Smibert, author of THE FORGETTING CURVE. She's visiting as part of her blog tour for a snappy Author This or That. Here's the scoop!
*********************

          1. Unicorns. Are they adorable or deadly? And before you jump on adorable, maybe you should flip on Supernatural or Cabin in the Woods to better weigh your options.
~ Deadly. Anything with a huge spiky thing on its head didn't evolve to be cute.

          2. Writing a novel by hand or typing out a novel?
~ Both. I start out writing on legal pads and then the second draft happens as I type it into the computer. What's on the paper is seldom exactly what ends up on the screen.

          3. Which universe is better: Marvel or DC Comics? This is pretty much the only thing that can incite screaming matches around our dinner table. Yes, we are that awesome.
~ Marvel. Howard the Duck all the way. (Just kidding!) I've gotta go with the Avengers and X-men over Superman / Batman.  However, I'm actually more of a Dark Horse and Neil Gaiman / Sandman kind of girl.

          4. Would you rather be stuck in a dystopian world or a steampunk world?
~ Steampunk. a) more fun. b) more hope. c) cooler gadgets.

           5. Paris or Rome?
~ Rome. I've always had a thing for Roman history--and good Italian food.

          6. Would you rather live in the stuffy city or the countryside sipping tea with handsome men lean with muscle from working the ranch? Whoops, guess we know what Alyssa's vote is.
~ An unstuffy city with the lean, muscly men mowing my lawn.

           7. Harry Potter or Hunger Games?
~ Both. How can I choose?

           8. Are you a lover or a fighter? And be honest. One of my brothers claims to be a fighter, but gets teary watching The Sound of Music.
~ A lover, but that scene in Braveheart where the Scots first defeat the English gets me teary-eyed. (JK)

9. Hot zombie boyfriend or scaled merman boyfriend?
~ Zombie merman.

10. Home baked goods or ice cream?
~ Hello? Both.

Thanks Angie for taking the time to share such great answers. Especially Zombie Merman - brilliant!

THE FORGETTING CURVE
Aiden Nomura likes to open doors—especially using his skills as a hacker—to see what’s hidden inside. He believes everything is part of a greater system: the universe. The universe shows him the doors, and he keeps pulling until one cracks open. Aiden exposes the flaw, and the universe—or someone else—will fix it. It’s like a game.
Until it isn’t.
When a TFC opens in Bern, Switzerland, where Aiden is attending boarding school, he knows things are changing. Shortly after, bombs go off within quiet, safe Bern. Then Aiden learns that his cousin Winter, back in the States, has had a mental breakdown. He returns to the US immediately.
But when he arrives home in Hamilton, Winter’s mental state isn’t the only thing that’s different. The city is becoming even stricter, and an underground movement is growing.
Along with Winter’s friend, Velvet, Aiden slowly cracks open doors in this new world. But behind those doors are things Aiden doesn’t want to see—things about his society, his city, even his own family. And this time Aiden may be the only one who can fix things... before someone else gets hurt.

MEMENTO NORA

On an otherwise glossy day, a blast goes off and a body thuds to the ground at Nora's feet. There are terrorist attacks in the city all the time, but Nora can't forget.
In Nora's world you don't have to put up with nightmares. Nora goes with her mother to TFC--a Therapeutic Forgetting Clinic. There, she can describe her horrible memory and take a pill to erase it so she can go onlike nothing ever happened. But at TFC a chance encounter with a mysterious guy changes Nora's life. She doesn't take the pill. And when Nora learns the memory her mother has chosen to forget, she realizes that someone needs to remember.
With newfound friends Micah and Winter, Nora makes a comic book of their memories called Memento. Memento is an instant hit, but it sets off a dangerous chain of events. Will Nora, Micah, and Winter be forced to take the Big Pill that will erase their memories forever?
Angie Smibert's remarkable debut novel takes readers on a thrilling ride through a shadowy world where corporations secretly rule and consumerism is praised above all.

Hm... any day full of fun and love. If we can't have a lot of those, then hopefully we are full of memories of them.

The day my husband proposed, my wedding day umm I mean our wedding day, the day my children were born, there are several I couldn't stand to forget.

Sounds like an interesting book! I personally want the scaly merman. Not the zombie lover. And I totally agree about living in a steampunk world versus dystopian-one word-HOPE.

This book is a very quick read with short chapters and economical and often lyrical prose. I think I will have to go back and read Memento Nora, just so I can visit this world of corporate and government corruption once again. A nice examination of the power of memory in shaping who we are, The Forgetting Curve is an enthusiastic recommend.

This trilogy is a fun read for a dystopia. Although the futuristic trends are discomforting, you're drawn into the world of the teenaged protagonists and can't help but identify with their struggles.
