   ~ Deadly. Anything with a huge spiky thing on its head didn't evolve to be cute.

          2. Writing a novel by hand or typing out a novel?

   ~ Both. I start out writing on legal pads and then the second draft happens as I type it into the computer. What's on the paper is seldom exactly what ends up on the screen. 

          3. Which universe is better: Marvel or DC Comics? This is pretty much the only thing that can incite screaming matches around our dinner table. Yes, we are that awesome.

   ~ Marvel. Howard the Duck all the way. (Just kidding!) I've gotta go with the Avengers and X-men over Superman / Batman.  However, I'm actually more of a Dark Horse and Neil Gaiman / Sandman kind of girl.

          4. Would you rather be stuck in a dystopian world or a steampunk world?

   ~ Steampunk. a) more fun. b) more hope. c) cooler gadgets.

           5. Paris or Rome?

~ Rome. I've always had a thing for Roman history--and good Italian food.

          6. Would you rather live in the stuffy city or the countryside sipping tea with handsome men lean with muscle from working the ranch? Whoops, guess we know what Alyssa's vote is.

   ~ An unstuffy city with the lean, muscly men mowing my lawn.

           7. Harry Potter or Hunger Games?

~ Both. How can I choose? 

           8. Are you a lover or a fighter? And be honest. One of my brothers claims to be a fighter, but gets teary watching The Sound of Music.

 ~ A lover, but that scene in Braveheart where the Scots first defeat the English gets me teary-eyed. (JK)

9. Hot zombie boyfriend or scaled merman boyfriend?

~ Zombie merman.

Okay, so today we’re going to be playing a little SURRENDER Survivor. I watch a lot of reality TV, and it’s always hard to be the first one voted off the island.

Today, I’m going to highlight three of the lesser known—or lesser liked—characters in POSSESSION/SURRENDER, and I want you to vote for the one you think would prevail in a survival battle to the death. (Okay, maybe not the death, but you know what I mean.)

Thane Myers: This is the Director father of Violet Schoenfeld. We see him in even more depth in SURRENDER as the Assistant Director of Freedom, and the Director of Technology for the city.

He’s sort of a mystery for Gunner, as Thane wears a thick gold ring—and jewelry is against protocol.

But Thane has shown that he’ll do what it takes to satisfy the higher-ups in the Association. He did brainwash his daughter and force her to Freedom…

Indiarina Blightingdale: Indy is the leader of the Resistance after Jag leaves the Badlands, before POSSESSION even opens. She’s served as his second for a while, and when he goes missing, she steps up. We get to read more about her in REGRET, and surprise, surprise, readers first meet her in POSSESSION (can you find her?)—and everyone will get to see her again in SURRENDER.

She doesn’t have any talents, but she has a fierce will and more than a few tricks up her sleeve, so don’t count her out just yet… She is the leader of the Union-wide Resistance after all.

Starr Messenger: Starr is one of the most talented mind powers in the Association—but she doesn’t want to brainwash others. She’s Indy’s contact inside Freedom, and you’ll get to meet her in REGRET and really get the low-down on Starr in SURRENDER. She’s matched to Gunner, and he describes her like this:

Starr hung with the tech-science geeks, even though she clearly possessed some high-class mind control. Her goal was a job in the Evolutionary Rise, and I had no doubt she’d run the place one day. No one has eyes as sharp as Starr. She’d spotted my near-obsessive crush on Raine after a single genetics class period. She sent me an e-comm, commenting that I might want to “take the staring down a notch.”

Starr held natural beauty in the bones of her face, and her hair fell in waves as dark as the night. Her eyes blazed with power, almost violet instead of blue.

Your call, but Starr probably already knows what you’re going to do. Just sayin’.
