Stephanie Meyer's THE HOST Movie News

Casting has started for the movie version of one of my favorite books, THE HOST by Stephanie Meyer. Saoirse Ronan will have the staring role of Melanie/Wanderer.

A
As super teen assassin Hanna

She's currently in HANNA which I hear is awesome, but credits include ATONEMENT, THE LOVELY BONES, and is rumored to be in the upcoming HOBBIT. I think she'll do a great job!

His adorable self!

Ian Somerhalder's name has been batted around in the past for the main love interest but I haven't heard anything recently. I think that would be sweet!

Fan favorites for Uncle Jeb are Sam Elliott and Jeff Bridges. I'm good with either one.

I'm excited but worried because so much of what happens goes on in the head of Melanie/Wanderer. I hope they get it right!

What are your thoughts?

Oh, I remember her in City of Ember! For some reason,I always pictured Melanie older, though that may be b/c Wander reads older.

I'd love Ian as Ian. That would be perfect casting. The choices for Jeb are interesting, but I still think Jeff Fahey would be great at it!

Now this is news! Love Ian, he will do lol
I wanted Saoirse to be katniss before the whole hunger games movie news came out but i think Jennifer will be awesome so its a win win.

I remember Saoirse Ronan from City of Ember, too. I can see her as Melanie; she looks even more like the character in the top pic you posted, I think.

This is SUCH a good book that I'm with you and I'm a little worried about how it will translate to film. I do think Saoirse Ronan is a good pick, though!

They talking about a movie but she hasn't written the freaking sequel... Disappointed in SM, but what are you going to do. Hope this one doesn't suck at least!

I really enjoyed reading THE HOST, but I'm not okay with the casting of Saoirse Ronan as Melanie/Wanderer. It seems like the studios are trying to appeal more to the Meyer's Twilight audience, when Melanie/Wanderer is supposed to be in her 20's, not a teen girl.

Maybe I'm wrong, but the book is considered adult and I figured adults would be cast in the movie (Ian would be amazing!) so Ronan just doesn't work for me.

Sam Elliot! I love his voice.

I need to read this one still. Can't believe I haven't yet.

I, like Brooke, always thought Melanie was older. But the most important thing is really how they make the movie :)

While she's not what I physically would have imagined, she is a phenomenal actress and I'm sure she'll do an amazing job! Thanks for the news.

I'm worried about the mind stuff too btw. I adore that book.

Eeek! It's about time they started casting! I'm not a Twilight fan, but I loved The Host! I think Ronan is a great choice, and Ian Somerhalder would be an even better one! :) Thanks for sharing the news, guys!

I read about this on shelf awareness and I was shocked - 1)because it's been awhile since news surfaced about this movie, and 2) because I never would have imagined her in the role of Melanie. I'm sure she'll do fine, she's a wonderful actress and all of that, but I thought they would go with someone older. I'm really looking forward to see who they cast for the rest of the roles. I really like Jeff Bridges. :)
