NIGHTSHADE & WOLFSBANE Cover Change!

Andrea Cremer's NIGHTSHADE is getting a new cover for the June paperback.

But Penguin also announced that the sequel WOLFSBANE (hardcover release July) will have a new cover, scrapping the original version (on the right) altogether.

I appreciate the concept of the new covers. Especially the NIGHTSHADE one with the wolf/girl idea and the fact that they share the same eye. And since I frothed over NIGHTSHADE and recently read and loved WOLFSBANE, I'd buy them both regardless. But if you just ask me what covers I prefer, it's the originals, hands down. Stunning! Gorgeous!  Eye-catching! I ADORE them!

In my perfect world they'd put the new WOLFSBANE cover on the paperback and keep the two original covers for the hardbacks.

Seems fans have very strong opinions one way or another. There's even a Twitition to get the original WOLFSBANE cover back. And according to Andrea's blog Penguin is having lots of discussion about the decision. So we'll see what happens and how much influence fans and the blogosphere will have!

What do you think?

  1. I'm with you - totally prefer the originals, hands down. The new ones are cool, though.
I actually hadn't heard about Wolfsbane yet. I'll be looking forward to reading it! Loved Nightshade!

  2. OMG! There's a petition? I'm totally signing it! When I heard this news it ruined my day. I was so pissed for the whole day. I'm lucky b/c I was able to snag an ARC and the ARC still have the beautiful orgiinal wolfsbane pic on it. but I hope that Penguin seriously looks into this again, about having two covers, they already have one and a second one and then they haev new ones, the logical solution is to use one set for the hardbacks and the other for teh paperbacks, duh!

  3. I think they should be consistant with the HC books and have the same style then switch to the new one for the PB's if they wanted.
The original Nightshade is so different from the new style.
IMO the first covers are more eye catching and unique

  4. I like them both, but still a bit more partial to the old covers. :)

  5. I agree with you. I like the original covers more too. I like the colors plus the cover model looks so fierce.

  6. I'm also bummed about this. I still haven't read Nightshade though, but I would much prefer to own the original covers over the new ones. I agree with you about leaving the old covers for hardcover and new ones for paperback. That just makes more sense. Hopefully, that's what they'll do.

  7. I love the old covers much better- I just think they are so much softer and prettier- and fit better with the style of the book. About half the reason that I bought Nightshade was because the cover was so pretty (I know I'm shallow!), and I want my Wolfsbane copy to match it :(

  8. I agree. I just adore the original covers! I'd hate to see them get scrapped! :(

  9. Disappointment comes to mind. I don't know why they would want to change from the original covers. They are stunning.

  10. O I like your plan. Best of both worlds.

  11. I think the new covers look generic.

  12. Ohh, I didn't notice the eye-sharing thing, but now that you mention it, IT'S AWESOME. Though, in general, I feel like the new covers are a bit generic... I really liked Wolfsbane's old cover and was looking forward to it matching Nightshade. But I guess not. ;_;

  13. I would like your perfect world to be made real, please. The new covers have a very "paperback" feel to them. They're ok, but the old covers are just stunning.

  14. I'm still holding out hope that the old covers come back! Although I do love your plan...that way everyone's happy! :)

  15. Definately prefer the old covers. I was going to buy them - not just because the book looks amazing, but also because the covers are just so gorgeous! I hope they don't change!

  16. I really don't like it when publishers change covers mid series. I could see using the new ones for the paperback edition, but having two different (very) covers for the hardbacks bothers me (I like my books to match).

The new covers are okay, but not nearly as good as the original ones. ^_^

  17. I want the old covers back. I haven't read Wolfsbane yet because I'm trying to find the old cover in Hardback and I just can find it.
I love when my books match and I think the old covers are gorgeous compared to the ones that look like they should be on a cereal box.
