Book Review: CRESCENDO by Becca Fitzpatrick

by Becca Fitzpatrick
release: Oct 2010
genre: Teen Fiction/Romance/Fallen Angels
Nora Grey's life is still far from perfect. Surviving an attempt on her life wasn't pleasant, but atleast she got a guardian angel out of it: a mysterious, magnetic, gorgeous guardian angel. But, despite his role in her life, Patch has been acting anything but angelic. He's more elusive than ever and even worse, he's started spending time with Nora's arch-enemy, Marcie Millar.
Nora would have hardly noticed Scott Parnell, an old family friend who has moved back to town, if Path hadnt been acting so distant. Even with Scott's totally infuriating attitude Nora finds herself drawn to him - despite her lingering feeling that he's hiding something.

Haunted by images of her murdered father, and questioning whether her nephilim bloodline has anything to do with his death, Nora puts herself increasingly in dangerous situations as she desperatly searches for answers. But maybe some things are better left buried, because the truth could destroy everything - and everyone - she trusts.
HUSH HUSH is among my favorites. I love Patch, the deliciously sexy rogue. But I procastinated on CRESCENDO, afraid it couldn't live up. Instead of buying it I put my name on the library list. I was about...three hundred and twelve. Yeah, it helped me procrastinate even further. But the other day, it came in so I put on my big-girl pants and read it.

First and foremost, I thoroughly enjoy Fitzpatrick's writing - the pace, the flow, the structure. She really pulls me in to the story and, whether I like them or not, her characters are well developed. I love the smoldering sexuality that oozes from Patch. When he's wooing Nora with that seductive, cocky self-confidence, I'm glued to the page. Like I was glued to the first pages of CRESCENDO when it's Patch at his hot, sultry best.

But then Nora - the idiot - breaks up with him and he's gone for most of the story. Okay, not gone completely, but he's on the sidelines and hanging out with Marcie of all people. I'd rush through to where he'd come onto the page. Then I'd slow down to enjoy the pleasure of his company. I know. I'm pathetic.

The plot has intrigue, suspense, danger and diabolical twists. Fitzpatrick's writing is stellar. And for those who didn't like Patch, his absence will actually be a blessing. But I missed him. For the few times that he's sizzling the pages, it's all good. But CRESCENDO is more mystery than romance. You get insight into Nora's missing dad, and more angel lore, along with a wowza cliffhanger.

Oh, I'm ready for the sequel, SILENCE, coming out Oct 4. And I'm counting on lots of Patch!

Nora finds that as things start to unravel around her, she is more drawn to the enigmatic Patch. She soon discovers that the answers lie closer to home than she realized, and it is time for her to take control of her destiny once and for all.
The noise between Patch and Nora is gone in this book. They’ve overcome the secrets riddled in Patch’s dark past…bridged two irreconcilable worlds…faced heart-wrenching tests of betrayal, loyalty and trust…and all for a love that will transcend the boundary between heaven and earth. Armed with nothing but their absolute faith in one another, Patch and Nora enter a desperate fight to stop a villain who holds the power to shatter everything they’ve worked for—and their love—forever.

Nora and Patch upped the annoying factor in this. Since I adored Hush Hush I was let down by the sequel. I have high hopes for the third book though and ohmygosh could the guy be any more perfect for Patch?! Hooottttt

So that is how you think he looks like...certainly a reason to continue reading this series

Hi Alyssa!

Yeah, the whole breaking up thing, then angsting over who he was with, or without... Nora did not make a smart move, but there he was in her dreams... I really enjoyed this book, lots of mystery, a little romance, and an ending that left me begging. Loved it!

Glad you enjoyed it too! I'll be waiting to see what happens next in Silence, as this trilogy closes... would like it to continue though.

I like Patch but I'm not crazy over him like you are Alyssa. The ending was crazy so I can't wait to see what happens in Silence.

Aghhhh. Did the break up make any kind of sense? Freaking Nora and Patch. They drive me batty.

And, I didn't care for the cliff hanger ending. Thanks for the info on Silence.

Oh nice pic.. yum. I didn't like Patch in the first but liked him a bit more in the second. I'm hoping by the third I may really like him. :)

I wasn't blown away by Hush, Hush but it was Nora that I found a bit 'meh' so maybe I'll like Crescendo more ... not sure but thanks for a great review and adding to my indecision lol

I can't wait for Silence. I agree with Teddyree regarding Nora. Fortunately Crescendo was much better. :D

My sister has Hush, Hush, yet I still haven't gotten around to trying this series. Although, I might try to read it now, especially if it has a bit of a mystery aspect to the series. Thanks for sharing the review. ^_^
