Kudos to Alyssa!




Alyssa won't post about this but Gregory and I are very proud of our annoying sister, so we're going to do it for her.

You may or may not know that Alyssa is a writer and has recently finished a YA urban fantasy novel. She goes to conferences all the time and is a student in the UCLA Writer's Program. About a month ago she entered a contest over at the QueryTracker blog (a great resource for writers by the way). She submitted her first 5 pages along with 70 other contestants. The contest was judged by a literary agent and...

Drum roll, please!

Alyssa WON! She was notified by writer Suzette Saxton about the exciting news. There was a grand prize winner and then 3 runner-ups (or is it runners-up? We should ask Alyssa.) Anyway, Alyssa was one of the runner(s)-up(s) which means that the agent wants to see a partial manuscript of her novel!

Big news at the Kirk Household and we wanted to share it with our blogosphere family. Perhaps one day soon we'll be asking you all to review her book!

No guarantees and anything can happen but we're proud of this accomplishment.

Way to go Alyssa!

    P.P.S. And guys, you are definitely accepted as affiliates. I don't care that you guys are teenagers (technically I'm still one myself at 19). You guys ROCK! I just have to add you all to an affiliate post and everything but you're definitely in! Saying that made me feel cool. I feel like I'm the leader of some secret society. Maybe we should come up with a handshake...Hmm....Well I'm going to go before I ramble on any longer. Another big congrats to Alyssa!

  41. J Kaye - thanks for the support! I'm willing to take the steps to get there and hope this is one. I kind of write in a vacuum with a handful of family members cheering me on. This is the first time I've ventured out talking to so many people about my work (thanks to Jake and Gregory) and it has been a thrill. I'm so thankful for all the kind words. They help to keep me going!
