So women give men a hard time about only wanting one thing...Men are Pigs! is the mantra...and yet, this top magazine for females is really nothing but soft porn.
Are you kidding me?
Someone left this at our house and being something new, we all started flipping through it at various times and - WHOA, it was an eye opener!
The only theme running through this baby is sex: advertisements for stuff to make you look sexier, articles on how your favorite stars look sexier, and how to have sex. Yep, that's about it.
My mom absolutely forbade me from quoting any of the explicit stuff from this rag...I mean mag so I am limited in giving evidence but...
Here's a partial list of the articles:
Shun, Shag or Marry
Fun Little Tricks Guys Love
The Naughtiest Thing I've Ever Done
7 Touch Me Styles
The New Miss Nasty
Sexy vs. Skanky
Bad Girl Sex
Sex Panic
Get Naughty Tonight
"Hung": A Real Guy's Story
The only thing missing is How to be a Skank 101!
And correct me if I'm wrong because I'm no astrologer, but I don't think that the stars are telling you to go have sex and specifically how to do it... and that's the advice for every single one of the zodiac signs.
In the Megan Fox interview, she tells us that "women hold the power because they have the (insert name of female reproductive organ here)." Isn't she a class act?
Everything is about sex. Cosmo focuses on making men mindless beasts intent on one thing, and then gives women info on how to fulfill their desires. You girls read this? You buy into this? No wonder you think we're pigs!
Unless..... This is starting to make me wonder if it's actually men running Cosmo!....Hmmmm....

How refreshing to read a young man's point of view of how this world teaches all the wrong things and then scrambles to pick up the pieces—sexually transmitted diseases, teenage pregnancies, abortions, depression, suicide...As mom's (such as your own too) we work hard to teach our girls self-respect and the proper viewpoint of sex. But it's hard work! And Cosmo is only one of many outlets for garbage teachings. Kudos to you for voicing your opinion!
Amen honey!
Years and years ago I remember these magazines being more about fashion but more and more they've become about sex and crude behavior.
I refuse to buy them.
Recently my neighbor gave me some of her old back issues of Glamour and I was SO disgusted I threw them out.
PS
I abhor Miss Fox.
She is just tooo much.
I was going to say the same thing as Juju... I haven't read that magazine in many years and even though it was risque I don't think it was ever nearly that bad!
Yes, I absolutely read Cosmo. I personally like the sex articles. I know this comes as a shock, but women enjoy sex, it's something we do. Also shocking, it takes work to 'O' as a woman, and Cosmo is very helpful for those tricks.
I mean, look at Maxim it is just as bad, yet I don't see a rant post about that. Just because a woman is upfront about sex does not make her a skank. Absolutely not.
But then, Cosmo isn't for children, it's for ADULT women. And adult women care about make-up and sex.
I'm not trying to sound mean, but I'm a woman who reads and loves Cosmo and it has yet to turn me into a skank, but I do have nice hair and a good wardrobe (thankyoucosmo). Aside from articles about sex, there are articles about detecting skin cancer, as well as about outsmarting a rapist. I mean, you aren't cosmo's demographic so I can see how it wouldn't appeal to you at all.
:-)
I've read this magazine before but I felt like every issue was the same and it was just saying stuff that I really didn't need to learn bc I already knew it, or that I just didn't want to learn! LOL I've moved on to Glamour magazine, which actually has some educational articles involved.
Hm Jake, you made interesting points, but I still like reading this mag lol...their are some informing articles that don't only talk about sex. But, I do agree it is mainly about it. Ugh I'm so tired of Megan Fox, she's not even that cute...what do you think about her Jake?
LOL.....oh you hit it right on the head with this one.
Laura - I don't think we can blame Cosmo for all that's wrong with the world but this magazine is certainly an interesting reflection of what girls and women are being fed.
Juju - The fashion stuff in this magazine was regulated to one or two page snippets. Most of the real articles didn't have much to do with it.
Jenny - The sex angle definitely overwhelms the fashion aspect.
April - Whoa, didn't mean to set off a nerve.
I'm glad you like sex. I think everyone should. To quote George Michael, "Sex is natural, Sex it good."
I think you missed my point. So I thought I'd clarify myself better in a follow up post. Check it out.
Sarbear - I've only read this one issue but it wasn't what I expected. Glad to hear Glamour has some good info.
Eleni - I'm not saying this magazine doesn't have other articles, but the overwhelming topic is about how to please men in the sack. It surprised me.
And Megan Fox? I do think she is pretty and sexy (although her new lips in the second Transformers movie kind of threw me) but then she opens her mouth and speaks. She comes off as a very ugly person on the inside. So full of herself, superior and insulting to others. Can't stand her myself.
Ryan G - I knew another guy would understand!
If you want a fashion magazine, you go to Elle or Vogue. Cosmo is kind of a mix of it all.
"This is starting to make me wonder if it's actually men running Cosmo!....Hmmmm...."
That is a very plausible conspiracy theory, Jake!
