Book Bloggers are Good People!

I know there's been a lot of negativity on book blogging/bloggers lately and quite frankly, we just don't get into that drama.

It's kind of like the news where they just report all the bad stuff to get the ratings. We hate that.

So today I'm going to counter negativity with a real life "Book Bloggers are a Wonderful and Generous People" story.

The Introverted Reader

A few weeks back I participated in Jen's first Character Connection meme which she has every Thursday (if you read our Karrin Murphy post last week, you'll know what I'm talking about) @ The Introverted Reader. She was having a contest to kick it off and I won!

The winner got to pick any book from the Book Depository and I asked her for a few days to decide between Heist Society and The Body Finder. She said sure and I finally picked Heist Society. I received it a couple of days ago, all excited. And then yesterday, Jake brings home another package which has The Body Finder, and it's from Jen.

So I email and tell her I think there's been some sort of mistake and here's what I get back:

I decided to send you both. They weren't that much and I know what it's like to try to choose between books! ;)
Enjoy!

Jen

So take that, Negativity, I just smacked you down! You're a quivering mass of putrid slime on the sidewalk. Oh yeah!

Well, in reality, Jen did the actual smacking-down-into-a-quivering-mass thing by being so generous and kind. I just reported it.

And she's not the only stupendous book blogger out there. We've had all good experiences with wonderful bloggers. Just check out our Affiliates list, our Blogroll, the Buttons, the Commenters! Jen's just one of many shining examples of good people in the blogging community.

So enough will all the blah, blah bad. Focus on the good. We do and we're much happier for it!

And a collective Thank You to all the wonderful bloggers who've made our experience such a pleasure.

We love you all!

I'd love it if you'd mention some good experience in your comment, or if you have a post, link it up. Together we'll spread the positivity!

  4. I need a big fat LIKE button right now. I absolutely love Jen, and she's not the only one that goes out of her way to brighten people's days.
(And I like to think that, when I can, I do too).
I'm definitely not into the drama at all, and I think people need to just relax and enjoy blogging for what it is. It's supposed to be fun, after all...

  5. I’m glad someone finally said it...The negative blogs and bashing is terrible!! Keep things private and work the issues out one on one!!! My experiences with blogging have been pretty much all positive..take for example when your review or post moves someone and they email you and tell you what a difference your words made...That makes blogging worth it!

  6. Oh I love this, so true. Not to long ago I won a giveaway from Julie @my 5 monkeys and I had been pretty sick that weekend so I never checked my email by the time i got on to check it she had already picked a new winner I told her thanks anyway and I'll try again next time and she sent the book to me something anyway! It was such a sweet gesture I had to thank her - Book bloggers are all awesome in my eyes ;)

  11. Love this post!

I've been fortunate enough to meet extremely nice and sincere bloggers (some of them I haven't met in person, at least not yet) and I remember what they've done for me personally and I remember how they made me feel. Even though the act itself may be small, to me, it speak volumes about what type of person they are. Their acts are remembered for a long time, perhaps even forever.

Shout out to two bloggers who are made of goodness and made of awesome for going out of their way to send me an extra surprise in the mail, but mostly for spreading the happiness: Juju at http://www.talesofwhimsy.com/ and Mandy at http://eoseventeen.blogspot.com/ .

I'm sure there are many wonderful bloggers out there, but to me, these two bloggers are forever special for what they've done.

Alyssa, thanks for the great post! =)

  12. I only started book blogging about three months ago and I remember in my first month Natalie from Mindful Musings gave me a shout on on her blog. It felt good to be recognized by a fellow accomplished book blogger and I have found that for the most part everyone is very friendly and willing to help the newbies out!

  13. I couldn't possibly have kept up a blog without all of the positive support I've gotten from all of my fellow book bloggers! All of you guys have been awesome!

P.S. I've been wondering lately why I haven't been getting your guys' posts in my Google Reader. Apparently, I must have accidentally deleted you guys (oops!), but all's fixed now! Lol. :)

  14. I'm new to blogging and some of the "bad blogger" posts (while totally useful) make me feel a little paranoid - until I get yet another hugely welcoming and supportive comment from another blogger. It really touches me that people who don't know me take the time to read my posts and leave a nice message. I'm really glad to have become part of such a warm community and your post has confirmed my suspicions that book bloggers are a pretty fabulous lot!

  15. I started blogging last novemeber and I have not had one bad experience! Everyone has been supportive and kind to me including followers. A few people who had won past contests on my blog sent me handmade cards and bookmarks when they found out it was my birthday this year. It doesn't get better than that!
I'm hoping to meet several bloggers and followers at BEA in May too.
    great post!

  23. I knew I wasn't the only one who hates drama but it's good to see it in writing :)
I've had such great experiences with great bloggers. There really is a lot of love in the book community and I'm happy and honored to be a part of it.

  24. Awww, that is SO great to hear and thank you so much for sharing! I haven't been blogging for long enough to have had a wonderful story like that, but I hope I will one day! Not to mention, it would be so fun to make someone's day like that :D

  25. I totally agree, we book bloggers rock! That's a sweet story too, go Jen! I now award you brownie points

  26. Oh, wow. *blushing furiously* I don't even know what to say. It just seemed like a nice thing to do so I did it. If I'm having a hard time choosing between two books myself, I'll usually just grab both. Why should I make you choose when I wouldn't make myself? LOL!

YOU rock for not just taking it for granted and even going so far as to write up this post! There has been a lot of drama floating around lately, and even though most of us stay out of it, it's easy to feel like everyone's negative when we read so much of it. I have loved reading everyone's comments and seeing how both big things and little things are appreciated. Book bloggers and readers as a whole are awesome! Just try to remember that. When you see an opportunity to brighten someone's day, take it! You see here that it's noticed and remembered!

I'm sitting here thinking of all the bloggers who have touched me or helped me in big ways or small ways, and there are so many I want to mention, they're going to have to get their own post. I'll write it in the morning and link it up.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a positive post and getting us all to think about what a great community we have here. I for one really needed to read something positive. Thanks!

  28. This is so great! Just what we all need. And that was very kind of Jen to do that.

  29. I heart you for writing this post!

The book blogging community has, as a whole, been extremely supportive and helpful ever since I started last year. From Kate's (Neverending Shelf) neverending patience in helping me with my layout to Stephanie's (Stephanie's Written Word) answering the lamest questions about publishers and publicists...from Jen's (Introverted Reader) guiding me through Twitter for Dummies to Nely's (All about {n}) quick compliments...all of these book bloggers and many others have turned blogging, which is something I enjoy, into being a part of something bigger, something I love.

    Group hug?

I hadn't known there was a lot of negative drama lately, but given the blogging world in general, that's no surprise.

What is a surprise is this great post. =)

    Good idea, Alyssa!

  36. I guess I've missed most of the drama too. It's great to read your post and see so many positive experiences. Thank you to all of you who work so hard and do such a wonderful job. And thank you Alyssa, to you and your brothers, for a terrific blog!

Nice book blogger event: I had a book on my wish list. A lovely fellow blogger sent me her copy of the book, because she wanted to me to enjoy it. I was very touched by this. And the book was fab!
